Lawrence Laird, age 71, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Lawrence’s wishes were to be cremated. A private burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa on a later date. Lawrence was born on June 9, 1948, the son of Mart and Betty (Simmons) Laird. He joined the Army and proudly served his country. After his time in the military, Lawrence worked in underground coal mining and then worked in construction. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Billie Laird; four children, Tina, Shon, Tabitha, and Josie; step-daughter, Amber; siblings, Martin Laird, Jim, James, Steve, Richard, Pam, Maggie, Harold, Jeff and Ferris; also several grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mart and Betty Laird; grandparents, Ralph and Emma Laird, and Worth and Gladys Simmons; also uncle and aunt, Robert and Alice Avery.
