Obituary J.R. (born John Richard) Hasty, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away on January 5, 2020. He was born on October 5, 1924, in Bray to William Walter and Lena Lanora (Dungan) Hasty. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, January 9, from 5:30-7:00PM at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 10, at 1:00PM at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Pain officiating with Dr. Brad Allen assisting. Interment will follow at Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Ret. Lt. Col. Sam Tucker officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Stephens Country Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home. After graduating from Empire High School, J.R. joined the US Navy serving in the Pacific during WWII. After being discharged, he began singing in a gospel quartet where he met Lois Maxine Davenport at the Corum First Methodist Church. They were married August 24, 1946. In 1949 they welcomed a daughter, Judy, and three years later a son, John Richard Hasty, Jr. They settled in Duncan and he worked for the C.D. Shamburger Lumber Company. He went on to manage the C.D. Shamburger Lumber Company in Lawton, and then went on to manage lumber businesses in Waco, Texas and Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he retired. However, retirement didn’t last long, after moving back to Duncan in 1982, he returned to work at Duncan Builders Supply until permanently retiring in 1994. J.R. was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Duncan and a dedicated follower of Jesus. Serving in the church was his life calling; this included a short stint as a music director, preschool Sunday School teacher, church registrar for FBC Duncan, and a long-time church deacon. He was always willing to share his faith with others and lived his life with the mission of reaching out and helping others. He never met a stranger. J.R. is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Maxine; children: Judy Smith of Duncan and John Richard Hasty, Jr. of Woodstock, GA.; grandchildren: Allison Lovett and husband Jared of Duncan, April Daughtry of St. Augustine, FL, Jenna Glory and husband Josh of McKinney, TX, Brandon Hasty and wife Melissa of St. Augustine, and Collin Hasty of Kennesaw, GA; great grandchildren: Caleb and Daniel Glory, Jack Lovett, Mitchell and Barrett Daughtry, and Alexandra Hasty; brothers-in-law: Robert Davenport and Lynn Davenport of Duncan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
