Joseph’s Obituary Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Paul Jarzyna will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at the Mora House of Prayer, Mora, with Reverend Roger George and Chaplain Gerald Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville. Mr. Jarzyna, 80, of Alexandria, entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 23, 2020, in his residence. He served in the United States Air Force for eight years as an aircraft mechanic and loadmaster and was a retired construction planner for Watkins Construction. He was member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #247 for fifty plus years. He served on the Board of Directors of Lena Water System from 2002 to 2019 and was a Past Master and fifty year Mason of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge #398. He was a founding member of the Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department since 1986 and served on the Board of Directors as financial director. He loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, and helping his neighbors in any time of need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Susan Jarzyna; his loving wife of thirty-five years, Octavia Edwards Jarzyna; one brother, Edward S. Jarzyna and his wife, Arlene and his best friend and brother-in-law, Murphy Gorum. Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include one son, Edward Jarzyna and his wife, Nancy, of Flatwoods; one stepson, Reverend Roger Wayne George and his wife, Cheryl, of Flatwoods; three step grandchildren, Michelle and Kerry Brouillette, Michea and Patrick Ingraham and William Schahn, all of Flatwoods; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Mora House of Prayer, on Saturday, January 25, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Pallbearers honored to serve are: Kenneth Gorum, Chuck Holmes, Kerry Brouillette, Patrick Ingraham, Wesley Brownlee and Steven Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be the Flatwoods Fire Department.
