John R. Kowal, 95, of Hudson, passed away Monday January 20, at the Volunteer Firemen’s Home. Born August 28, 1924 in Linlithgo, he is the son of John and Mary (Baretsky) Kowal. John was educated in Linlithgo and Germantown Schools. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. A master craftsman, it led to John’s career as an automotive machinist at Columbia Auto Parts for many years. John was a former EMT instructor, and was a Life Member and Captain of the Greenport Rescue Squad. Continuation of his community service also included Life Memberships at the Hudson Elks Lodge #787, and Greenport Pumper Co. #1. John was also a member of the National Ski Patrol, and volunteered his service for over 32 years at Catamount Ski Resort. Left to cherish John’s memory are his three sons, John (Judy), William (Laurie), and Tracy (Carin), along with three grandchildren Devin, Paige, and Matthew. Many cousins and dear friends also survive. John was predeceased by his wife Doris (Shook), son James, and sister Katherine. Visitation hours at the Bates & Anderson- Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home are Thursday January 23, from 4-7pm. Funeral services are Friday at 1:00pm from the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
