Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) John Catterall, 89, of West Palm Beach, FL passed away peacefully on Friday Jan 10, 2020 after a prolonged illness. John, known to his family and friends as The Colonel will forever be remembered for his teachings, his time as a reserve pastor, his military career, husband, father, grandfather and friend. John was raised by his mother, Emily Cobb, born in England. He is survived by his three sons Bruce, John Jr. and his companion Marie, Kenneth and his wife Celeste, his beloved grandson Kristopher and his wife Eva and his great granddaughter, Leila. His love for his late wife, Matilda Tillie Catterall, of sixty-four years will never be forgotten. Jack and Tillie were married in Providence, RI and lived in New Bedford, MA as summer residents until 2014. His love for his sons, grandson, and new granddaughter will be cherished. John was a very proud member of the Masonic Lodge and greatly enjoyed time spent with his brother Masons. John attended the First Congregational Church in New Bedford and United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches in West Palm, FL. He graduated from Bridgewater and Fitchburg State Universities with Bachelors, Masters and military degrees. He was employed by New Bedford Vocational High School teaching electronics for 30 years. John also served in the United States Army and Reserves from 1948 1982 including a tour of duty during the Vietnam war. We will miss him dearly and will always cherish the memories of our time together. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm at the First Congressional Church at 2185 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford, MA 02745. Burial will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery at 11am on Jan 20, 2020.
