Jean (Mitchell) King, 93, of Kensington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (January 14, 2020) at Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville. Born in New Britain, she lived in Kensington since the early 1960’s. In 1952, Jean married the love of her life, Edward J. King and they were married for 62 years. A proud UConn graduate, Class of 1948, she was the recipient of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology. Her time at UConn was special to her and she became an avid fan of the Women’s Basketball Team in her later years. She cherished the fact that many of her children and grandchildren followed suit in the UConn tradition, their educational pursuits and the love of the UConn Huskies. Jean was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. Family and friends were Jean’s delight. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, playing Bridge and vacationing. She loved the ocean and her favorite vacation spots with family were Maine, Cape Cod and Florida. She was a proud Honorary Member of the Timberlin Lady Niners. Jean will be sorely missed. Surviving are two sons, E. John King, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Chester; Stephen King and his wife Julie of Andover; two daughters, Leslie Markham and her husband Raymond of East Hampton; and Lisa Merola-Grimm and her husband Edward of Kensington; a sister, Ann M. Seemann of Scottsdale, AZ; nine grandchildren, John, Michael, Cory, Krysten, Kyle, Andrew, Sarah, Casey and Joshua. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Lana, Jean’s caregiver, who stayed by her side until her passing. Funeral services are Tuesday 10 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours are Monday 4 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
