Janice B. Nelson, 93, of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Manchester, Iowa and daughter of the late Warren S. Bissell and Lois Slocum Bissell. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Louis E. Nelson, three brothers, and one sister. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, IA and was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. Janice was active in the nursing profession until her retirement from the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church, The Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 24, and an active volunteer of the Johnson City Senior Center. Those left to cherish Janice’s memory include her sons: Louis E. Nelson II and his wife Pat Lowe Nelson, Johnson City, TN, Larry E. Nelson and his wife Teresa Arnold Nelson, Kingsport, TN, Lester E. Nelson and his wife Lee-Ann Stanger Nelson, Johnson City; one sister, Joan Kuhn, York, PA, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends to share memories on Saturday, February, 1 2020 from 11:00 am until a Celebration of Janice’s life at 1:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City with Rev. Pat Locke and Mr. David Ensminger officiating. An Entombment and Committal service will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 3:20 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church, 610 East Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
