Obituary CHAZY – Gordon C. Dragoon, 88, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at his home in Sarasota, FL. Gordon was born on December 25, 1931 in Chazy, the son of Ralph and Audrey (Pombrio) Dragoon. He graduated from Chazy Central Rural School and later attended SUNY Plattsburgh where he received his Master’s Degree. Gordon served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1955. Following his Honorable discharge in 1955, Gordon married Elizabeth Anne Keefe on July 9, 1955 in Malone. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage before Elizabeth passed away on September 13, 1998. He started his career as a science teacher in Glens Falls, New York and a few years later moved back to his hometown of Chazy, New York where he served as the Elementary and Middle School Principal for Chazy Central Rural School for over 25 years. Gordon was a member of the Elks Club, the NY State Teachers Association and BOCES. He deeply enjoyed his family and was known as the family historian. Through his keen interest in genealogy he spent many hours exploring his family tree and documenting it all in pages of handwritten notes, leaving a gift of his family’s legacy to his children and relatives. He enjoyed the comradery of a good game of cards and sharing a nice meal with family and friends. In his retirement years, he took up woodworking and lovingly produced countless seasonal “works of art” which his children and friends proudly display in their homes. Survivors include his second wife, whom he married on June 16, 2003, Anna Margaret Dragoon; two sons, Gary Dragoon and wife, Diane Young and John Dragoon and wife, Nancy; two daughters, Annette Dragoon and Kay Weir and husband, Bruce; three step-children, Corine Kendrick and husband, Tom and Melissa Pierce and husband, Scott, and son-in-law Wayne Oberate; two sisters, Kay Olin and Linda Mason and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Ty Trippany, Luke Trippany, Mimi Trippany, Tara Lim, Christopher Dragoon, Matthew Hogan, Ryan Hogan and Gordon Dragoon; step-grandchildren, Adrienne and Allen Rosenbarger, Brandon and Stephanie Knight, Ryan and Brittany Kendrick, Erica Kendrick, Maranda and Ryan Boggess and David and Katie Pierce; 3 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; 15 nieces and 11 nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Elizabeth Anne; siblings, Edward (Lucille) Dragoon, Lillian (Connie) Kiernan and Ann (Roger) Duffina; and two stepchildren, Randy Jones and Pam Obertate. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25that 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.
