Obituary Gerald “Gary” Lee Langford, 74 of Omaha, NE, formerly of Beatrice, NE passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on January 18, 2020 at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. Gary was born August 27, 1945 in Alliance, NE. He spent most of his early childhood living in Alliance, Thedford, North Platte and Kearney, NE. While he was in junior high, he moved to Gibbon, NE where he graduated from high school in 1963. He entered the US Navy under the “Kiddie Cruise” enlistment program and completed his tour of duty in August of 1966. Gary returned to Nebraska and enrolled at Kearney State College. Gary married Joanne Green of McCool Junction, NE on June 2, 1968. He completed his teaching degree in 1970 while the couple made their home in Lexington, NE. Gary’s first teaching job was at Southern High School in Wymore, NE, where he taught business and coached various sports. He became a business teacher, sophomore basketball coach and tennis coach at Beatrice Senior High in 1975 and later earned his Master’s of Business Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a favorite teacher and coach to many, over his 37-year teaching career. Gary was the epitome of “do-it-yourself” and loved to complete home improvement and vehicle projects all on his own. He was also quite generous with those skills, often helping neighbors and friends with roofing projects, squeaky doors, tax return preparation, and whatever else needed to be done. Family was Gary’s greatest joy. Gary and Joanne moved to Omaha in 2019 to be closer to their seven grandkids and to be able to more easily make it to every ballgame, dance recital, concert, horse show, birthday party …and so on, they could make. Gary is survived by his wife, Joanne; two sons, Chad (Elizabeth) Langford and Corey (Kristi) Langford; along with seven grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, Katelyn, Andrew, Noah, Erin and Lauren Langford, all of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by two sisters, Kimiko Reif of Hemingford, NE and Tamiko Ushio of Casper, WY and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, January 27, 2020, at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE with pastor Ernesto Medina presiding. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials that are given be directed to Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha with Lawrence and Amy Penner in charge. A private inurnment will take place on a later date at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in McCool Junction, NE.
