Emilio A. Lopez, 18, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Friday, January 24, 2020. He was born November 15, 2001 in Shawnee, KS the son of Derrick and Monica Lopez. Emilio loved being active. His life revolved around sports, especially basketball and football. Emilio was a leader and excelled at his game. He was a natural athlete with many talents. He lifted up others and lead by example. He encouraged, motivated, and helped his teammates in any way that he could. You could often find him playing basketball at JFK and where he went to school, Washington High School. Although he was talented he stayed humble, chill, and respectful with everyone he encountered. His coaches found him admirable and his teachers loved him in class. He especially was loved by his nephew Leo and family. He was greatly cherished by his parents and was his grandma’s baby boy. Emilio had a loving relationship with his brothers and sister and they always had each other’s back. He impacted many lives in a short amount of time and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his parents, Derrick and Monica Lopez; four siblings Derrick Lopez, Jr., Alejandro Lopez, Veronica Lopez, and Miguel Lopez; nephew Leonardo Lopez; grandparents, Gloria Favela, Esther Yates, and Joseph Ortiz; girlfriend Mariela Tinoco that he truly loved; and many dear cousins that he considered more like brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, and best friends. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Maple Hill Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 31, 2020 at Christ the King Parish (3024 N 53rd St, Kansas City, KS 66104) with burial to follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
