Elfrieda “Ellen”‘s Obituary Elfrieda “Ellen” Bernetich (nee Rowan), formerly of Cherry Hill, NJ passed away in her home at Allegria of The Fountains in Atco, NJ. Ellen was surrounded by loved ones and caregivers. Her family gathered from near and far to visit with her and surround her with love in her final days. She was 92 years old. Born on February 3, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to William and Alfrieda Young Rowan, Ellen was a graduate of St. Agnes Grade School and West Catholic Girls High School and briefly attended the University of Pennsylvania. She met her husband while they were still in high school and worked at Strawbridge & Clothier in Philadelphia. They married after his discharge from his service in WWII. After raising her children, Ellen worked as an executive secretary at OkiData for 17 years before retiring at the age of 78. Ellen was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, John D. Bernetich. She is survived by her six children: John “Jack” Bernetich Jr. (Debbie), Ellen Mulgrew (Michael), Mary Vecchione (Tony), Nancy Mansfield, William “Bill” Bernetich and Karl Bernetich (Sue); seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; her brother, William Rowan and sister, Doris Falin (Thomas). Ellen was a loving wife, a caring mother, a doting grandmother, a very proud great grandmother and the consummate professional. Ellen lived the personal motto of persistence and often shared it with her family. Her first and foremost focus was always her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ellen to: Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice, 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Allegria of The Fountains and Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice for their compassionate care of Ellen in her final days.
