Edward “Earl” Rice, Jr., age 81, of Penns Grove passed away on January 6, 2020. Born in Fairton, Earl was the son of the late Edward E. and Esther (Robinson) Rice. He was a 1956 graduate of Bridgeton High School and worked as a service technician for Bell Telephone and Verizon in Pennsville for several years then ultimately in Blackwood. He served his country in the National Guard from 1957 to 1960. Earl was a hard worker throughout his life but he was able to enjoy the yearly trips to New Hampshire he would take in the fall. Earl is survived by his children Edward E. Rice III (Gretchen) of Pilesgrove, Cheri Schneider (Harry III) of Lakeland, FL and Joseph Chew (Christine) of Plymouth Meeting, PA; his grandchildren Kristy Pylant (Paul), Harry Schneider IV (Sonal), Benjamin Schneider (Rachael), Mariah Ridgway (Jordan), Andrew Schneider, Brennan Rice, Sarah Schneider, Olivia and Caroline Chew; his great grandchildren Robert and Timothy Cartwright and Alina and Landon Schneider; and several nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Rosemary Rice, his son Michael Rice and his sister Elaine Mattalucci. Services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Adams Funeral Home, 18 E. Maple Avenue, Penns Grove, NJ 08069 with a visitation starting at 10 AM leading to the funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Lawnside Cemetery in Pilesgrove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Earl’s memory to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia by going to www.chop.edu.
