Dovie’s Obituary Dovie Holmes, age 83, of Floydada, passed away on January 11, 2020 in Lockney. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada. Interment will follow at the Floydada Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada. Dovie was born March 10, 1936 to Clifford and Lennie (Widener) Willis in Floyd County. She attended Floydada schools and was a twirler while in high school. She married Austin Holmes, the love of her life, on April 17, 1981 in Floydada. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a longtime bookkeeper for Holmes Plumbing. Dovie also worked for years at Caprock Hospital as a Lab Tech and helped with home health care traveling from Floydada to many surrounding communities to take care of patients. Dovie loved to garden and to cook. She loved her dog, “Little Man”, and he was her pride and joy. Dovie also treasured spending time with her family and loved them all very much. Olga Martinez helped to take good care of Dovie when it became needed and they loved each other dearly. Dovie was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Holmes; a son, Ricky Derryberry; a granddaughter, Gina Adams; a grandson, Justin Gray; and a brother, Davis Willis. Dovie is survived by her son Dale Derryberry and his wife Vicki of Lubbock; daughter, Christie Gray; stepson, Steve Holmes and wife Pam of Floydada; stepdaughter, Debbie Bertrand of Floydada; 12 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and one great-great grandson.
