Dighton Kirby Ewan January 06, 1942 – January 26, 2020 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Dighton Kirby Ewan of Clarendon passed away on Sunday at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart at the age of 78. He was born on January 6, 1942 to the family of James O. and Edith Kirby Ewan in Little Rock. The family home was located in Blackton, Arkansas and Dighton received education at an early year in the Banner School House. After moving to Clarendon he continued his education at the Clarendon school district graduating in 1959. He graduated from UCA with a Bachelors degree and it was here that he met Patricia McIntire, the love of his life. After a two year courtship they married and spent the next 56 years together. Dighton received his Masters Degree at ASU, and then attended the University of Arkansas for his Specialist degree. He was also member of the Phy Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. Dighton was a member of the Clarendon First United Methodist Church. As a youth he was a choir member and an Acolyte. He served in past years as a member of the finance Board, administrative board,and became a member of the at large administrative board. He was a past member of the men’s Sunday school class. He has been active in the community serving as President of the Clarendon Lions Club, a Volunteer Fireman, member of the Levee Board Committee and caretaker of the Shady Grove Cemetery. Dighton took the opportunity to work with and touch the lives of many of our youth through the years. He began teaching at Newport High School. and later worked as a Counselor at Tukerman and Bald Knob High Schools. In 1971 Dighton moved back to his home in Clarendon and following his teaching years became a Middle School Principal at Clarendon School District. He left there to assume a position in agriculture and farming which he loved. After many years of service he went back to being an administrator at Ouichita High School and Devalls Bluff High School. After several years, He received the opportunity to take a position at Crowley’s Ridge Votech School serving as Director of Student Services. From 1971 to 1984 Dighton farmed and in 2001 stepped back from public work to retire, but when time allowed he was a true lover of hunting and fishing. He is survived by wife, Patricia McIntire Ewan; sons, James “Jim” (Charlotte) Ewan of Clarendon, Patrick (Melody) Ewan of Collierville, Tennessee; sister, Julia LeBoeuf of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Greyson Ewan, Stone Ewan, Cade Grinder, Mallory Grinder, Alyssa Files, Jared Hagger, and Kristi Hagger; great-grandchildren, Roman Files and Walker Files; and nephew, Kirby Jones. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
