David Lee Grapentine, 87, of Benicia passed away peacefully New Years Eve in a local hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and has been a Benicia resident for more than 55 years. David worked as a machinist and nuclear inspector at Mare Island for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force. David loved camping, fishing, dancing with his wife Betty, and bowling. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii. He loved watching sports, including track and field, men and women’s college games, NFL, NHL, & baseball. Most of all he loved rooting for the SF 49ers and SF Giants. He is survived by his children Judy (Bob) Coen, Karen (Bob) Azevedo, Ellen (Vic) Cardenas, Jess (Grace) Grapentine, Lori (Rick) Martin-Albers, Janna (Gus) Aguilar and Dawn (Bill) Wagner; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2015. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18th at St. Dominic’s Cemetery.
