Bernard A. Kemna, 72, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at St. Mary’s Health Center. He was born on October 5, 1947 in Waynesville, a son of the late Emil C. and Blanche Lucille (Oligschlaeger) Kemna. He was united in marriage on September 14, 1974 to Marilyn Boeckmann in Jefferson City. Bernard was a 1965 graduate of Helias High School. He was employed for the State of Missouri, Department of Labor, Division of Employment Security where he retired after more than 35 years of service. Bernard served his country in the Missouri National Guard for more than 22 years. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Martin Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight. He assisted several years cooking and helping with bingo at the St. Martins Knights of Columbus. Bernard served for many years on the Employment Security Credit Union Board. He enjoyed gardening, horseback riding and spent many hours bowling when he was younger. Bernard was a farmer and founding member of the St. Martins Cattlemen’s Association. Along with his wife of 45 years, Marilyn, he is survived by his children: Eric Kemna (Kelli) and Leslie Kemna, both of Jefferson City; brother: Michael Kemna (Mary Jane); sister: Mary Beth Strode (Dan); step-grandson: Ace Turley and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his in-laws: Alphonse and Clara Boeckmann and nephew: Jason Strode. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at St. Martin Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Jones officiating. Interment will follow in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Martin Catholic Church.
