Nathan Frederick Schepmann, 92, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Parkwood Village, Pratt, Kansas. He was born May 2, 1927, at their home in rural Holyrood, Kansas, to Friederich Heinrich Schepmann and Amanda Amelia Augusta (Cushman) Schepmann. Nathan was baptized on June 19, 1927, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holyrood, Kansas. He confirmed his Christian faith on April 6, 1941, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. On November 28, 1953, he married Jo Ann Knop at St. Paul Lutheran Church, at Preston (Natrona), Kansas. Nathan was a farmer who raised Polled Hereford cattle, sold Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds, and followed soil conservation practices. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preston, KS where he served in various elected positions. Nathan was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League/Lutheran Hour Ministries. He was a founding board member and served as President of the Children’s Christian Concern Society (LeadaChild). He served as a lay member on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Kansas District. He served on the Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission and on the International Governmental Affairs Committee of the U. S. Feed Grains Council where he was a representative to Turkey, Jordan, and Tunisia. Nathan was a member of the Pratt County Fair Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Pratt County Historical Museum. He is survived by two daughters: Brenda Piester and husband, Ronald, of Coats, and Carla Boyd and husband, Calvin, of Medicine Lodge; one son, Warren Schepmann and wife, Lori, of Preston, KS, and Westcliffe, CO; six grandchildren: Austin (Misty) Piester, Andrew (Megan) Piester, Christopher (Chelsea) Boyd, Ryan Schepmann, Sara Schepmann, and Katie Schepmann; nine great-grandchildren: Jackson, Lincoln, Truman, and Hayes Piester; Kylee, Addelyn, Makenna, and Carter Piester; and Charlotte Boyd; plus many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Anna Gemeinhardt, Rose Schepmann, Frieda Koker, Arnieta Schepmann, Esther Dolecek, Meta Nettnin, Elroy Schepmann, and Edith Schultz. Other siblings, Oscar, Ernst, Hulda, and Arthur Schepmann, died in infancy. Visitation will be Monday, December 30, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 31, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Preston (Natrona) with the Reverend Michael Schotte and the Reverend Daniel Chrismer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to LeadaChild, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or Orphan Grain Train, in care of the mortuary.
