Mrs. Leila Mae Brokstad, age 90, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 in Muskegon. She was born in Tallman, Michigan on May 28, 1929 to Louis and Winnie (Wright) Bockstanz. Leila had worked at Howmet for 30 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed home renovation projects, computer games, sewing, and crocheting. Leila enjoyed being a mother and always put her children first. She lovingly crocheted baby blankets for her grandchildren and sewed many clothes for her family. Leila will be remembered as a loving and compassionate woman with a beautiful smile. On July 20, 1948, Leila married Charles H. Brokstad and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2010. She is survived by five children, Craig Brokstad, Jeanne (John) Jones, Sandy (John) Martin, Chuck Brokstad, and Cyndi (Tim) Boes; 10 grandchildren, Terri (Steve) Waugh, Christopher (Staci) Jones, Bryn (Allison) Martin, Kylie (Will) Waller, Kaitlyn (AJ) Jain, Stephanie (Gary) Franks, Erik (Laura) Brokstad, Valarie (David) Smith, Kristina (Mark) Somerville, Caleb Boes and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Charles, Leila was preceded in death by her parents; son, Herbert Benjamin Brokstad; granddaughter, Alicia Boes; and four brothers, Louis, Irving, Glenn, and Ernest Bockstanz. SERVICES will be 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Lakeside Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Beetham and Rev. Ken Shady presiding. VISITATION will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 3, 2020 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 and from 11-Noon on Saturday at church. MEMORIALS in memory of Leila may be directed to Lakeside Baptist Church or Harbor Hospice Foundation. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
