Charles Henry Matthews, 96, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Paragould, Arkansas and son of the late James and Alta Mae Anderson Matthews. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. Those left to cherish Charles’ memory include his wife, Dorothy Marie Matthews, his children: Charles Danny Matthews, Belinda Matthews Cocheu; sister, Betty, four grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law: James Mitchell and wife Lydia, Noah Mitchell, Jr., and wife Doris, Bud Mitchell and wife Evelyn, and Judy ton; several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm on Friday, January 3, 2020 followed by a Celebration of Charles’ life at 1:30 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City with Pastor Roy Yelton officiating. A Graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
