Alice’s Obituary Alice Fay Jacobs, age 79, of Allison, Iowa, was born the daughter of Jacob and Emma (Hinders) DeGroote on April 26, 1940, in Parkersburg, Iowa. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1958. After graduation, Alice worked for a short time in Plainfield, Iowa, where she candled eggs. On March 18, 1961, Alice was united in marriage with James Jacobs at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, Alice and James lived on a farm, where Alice enjoyed being a farm wife, mother, and grandmother. Alice was member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. Alice enjoyed raising flowers and she was an excellent cook. Alice loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice died on Friday, November 29, 2019, at Unity Point Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emmalee Jacobs; her parents, Jacob and Emma DeGroote; four brothers, Clarence, Henry, Jake and Walter DeGroote; and six sisters, Ann Bartell, Hilda Sells, Dorothy Jans, Annette Sessler, Darlene Vance and Ruth Busching. Alice is survived by her husband of 58 years, James of Allison; two sons, Brad (Ann) Jacobs of Urbana, Iowa, Brian (Susie) Jacobs of Allison; one daughter, Amy (John) Tharp of Waverly, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Carlynn (Todd) Stachura, Dalton (Hailey) Jacobs, Jamie (Ethan) Landers, Blake Jacobs, Kayla (Cody) Marks, Marcy Jacobs and Courtney Tharp; two great grandchildren, Hadley and Grayson Landers; one brother-in-law, Frank Vance and one sister-in-law, Dottye DeGroote. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 5, 2019, at the St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in the Lynnwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319) 278-4245, and one hour before services at the church.
