Verna Lorraine Richards Joy, 90, passed away November 25, 2019, at a Bangor healthcare facility with her loving children by her side. She was born February 19, 1929, in Old Town the daughter of John B. and Mabel (Dawes) Richards. Verna grew up in Old Town in a large loving family and gained many friends throughout her life. Verna married Alvin “Buster” Joy on November 30, 1957 and soon her children came along. Susette was Verna and Buster’s special child who became the center of the family. Verna loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Church and was very active in establishing and helping with funeral receptions. She was a Eucharistic Minister and helped home-bound people with weekly communion and errands. Verna was also known for being an Avon Lady for over 30 years. She was very social, loved to travel, and spend time at Pushaw Lake at their camp. Verna’s dining room table was always open to friends and family. She always made a point of staying connected to her siblings and their families. Verna who was a happy, caring, and generous woman will be dearly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Alvin Joy; her siblings/in-laws, Laura and Edmund Brodeur, Vera and Raymond Bishop, Robert and Frances Richards, Arthur and Lillian Richards, Gerald Richards, Reginald and Geraldine Richards, and Darlene and William Polk. She is survived by her children; Susette Joy, Jeffrey Joy, Diane Brooks and husband Cory; grandchildren, Cody Brooks and Kayla Alexander and husband Tyler; great-grandchildren, Owen Brooks and Everly Alexander; sister-in-law, Pauline Richards (wife of Gerald), many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a special cousin Noreen White. The family would like to thank all the home care staff and the staff at Ross Manor for caring for our mother in such a loving way. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the Church of the Resurrection Parish, Holy Family Church, 429 Main Street, Old Town. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall following the service. Interment will be in the spring at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
