Rita Jean Lewis, 56, of Burlington, was called home at 4:36 AM Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born June 23, 1963, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Jesse and Barbara Jean Ferrell Lewis. Mrs. Rita was a Dietary Specialist at Burlington Care Center for nine years. She was a graduate of Marshall Metropolitan High School. Momma Rita was an amazing cook and could make anything. She loved to dance and go shopping. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids. Rita was a compassionate person and would help anyone however and whenever she could. She was a mother to many people. Rita was also a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. Survivors include her children, Kenneth Lewis, Racquel Lewis, Raynell Davis, Charlie Watson, Rachael Lewis, Jesse Lewis, and extended son, Michael Davis; twelve grandchildren; siblings, Sherron Lewis, Jesse Lewis, Jr., Keith Lewis, and Darren “Homer” Lewis; Sister – Friend, Velicia Howard, and all of her Iowa family and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Lewis, father, Jesse Lewis, Sr. and two siblings, Kenneth and Sheila Lewis. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends Friday, November 8, 2019 at Smith and Thomas Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Rita will be 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Smith and Thomas Funeral Home. A memorial has been established.
