Norman Charles Gibson July 29, 1936 – November 18, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Norman Charles Gibson, 83, of Tama, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 at Unity Point Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor John Christianson officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Norman was born on July 29, 1936 in Le Grand, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Adeline (Nuese) Gibson. He graduated from Tama High School in 1954. Norman served his country in the U.S. Army. On November 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joan Manfull at the Methodist Parsonage in Montour, Iowa. Norman was an owner and operator of a trucking company. He drove truck starting in 1955 and hauled many things over the years including jet airplane engines during the Vietnam War, glass, cans and produce. Norman and Joan had lived in California for about forty years and moved back to Iowa in 1996. They enjoyed going to the desert to camp and ride dirt bikes. His greatest joy was spending time with family and going to the kids’ events. Norman truly was a man who’s actions spoke louder than his words. A “Real” American Trucker! Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Joan of Tama; five children, Jeffrey Eugene (Faith) Gibson of Tama, Robert J. (Nancy) Gibson of Jenison, MI, Ricky Lynn Gibson of CA, Robin Renee (Rick) Schoonderwoerd of Carlsbad, CA, and Patricia Kay (Kent) Campbell of Toledo; eleven grandchildren, Rachel Dress, Derek Gibson, Elin (Zach) Doornbos, Erin (Darin) Bouws, Anna (Rob) Jones, Evan Gibson, Max and Sam Schoonderwoerd, Ryan (Shawna) Campbell, Katelyn and Shaun Campbell; four great-grandchildren, Caleb (Casey) Huseman, Gavin (Arielle) Huseman, Mabel and Estelle Way; one great-great granddaughter, Ava Huseman; four brothers, Ronnie (Kathy) Gibson of AZ, Richard (Sharon) Gibson of Newton, Glenn (Sharon) Gibson of Montezuma, and Wayne Gibson of Tama; one sister-in-law, Bev Gibson of MN; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Dale Gibson; two sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Gibson and Rena Gibson. A memorial fund will be established.
