Smith, age 74, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Kermit was born on May 13, 1945 to his parents the late Alpha Thomas Smith and K. Leonard Smith. He was the husband of Sherril C. Newsome Smith, a retired job foreman for the Pike County Road Department and he was also of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. Kermit served his country honorably in the United States Army. Along with his parents, Kermit was preceded in death by one brother, Dick Shelton Smith, one niece, Kimberly Beth Smith, and one nephew, Ricky Harmon. Along with his wife, Kermit is survived by one daughter, Christina “Chris” (Jeff) Elswick of Long Fork, one son, K. Stephan (Rhonda) Smith of Little Robinson Creek, four grandchildren, Austin Elswick, Andrew Smith, Tamara Bazan, and Kassidy Hinkle, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Friday at 4p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Friday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Teddy Honaker and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Rob Newsom Cemetery at Little Robinson Creek.
