Jimmie Carl “Jim” Long age 76 of Tracy, IA passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation for Jim will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Knoxville, with Jim’s family present to greet friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors will follow services at Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy. Jim was born on November 22, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was the youngest son of Clifford Thomas and Opal (Gray) Long. Jim grew up on the Beacon Road and attended school in Beacon. After school Jim went to training and worked as a brick mason until he enter the service. Jim served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He went to basic training in Louisiana. He was transferred to the Second Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas until he was sent to Vietnam where he served in the 36th Engineer Battalion of the 20th Engineer Brigade. After his service Jim worked for over 30 years at Pella Corp. in Pella, Iowa. On March 21, 1969 in Illinois Jimmie Carl Long and Barbara Lou Mefford were united in marriage. Barb and Jim shared their lives together in Tracy and were blessed with two sons, Tony and Mike. Barb died on April 15, 2018. Jim enjoyed picking up cans, playing cards, fishing hunting, and socializing. He was always in his garage tinkering on something or working on a lawn mower or weed trimmer. Jim loved his dogs, birds, coffee, and smoking his tobacco pipe. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Jim is survived by his two sons, Tony Long and Angie Galliart of Pella and Mike Long and Cathy Miller of Tracy; five grandchildren, Cody Long and fiancée’ Kurston, Tiffany Murdock and husband Dave, Loren Miller, Jenna Galliart and Eddie Galliart; two great-grandchildren, Legend and Liam; and one sister-in-law, Rosemary Long of Illinois. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara Lou Long; parents Clifford and Opal Long; one brother Jack long; and one granddaughter, Jessica Miller. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Jim’s family for funeral expenses. The Winfield Funeral Home is assisting Jim’s family with services.
