March 21 1923 November 20 2019
Audrey Berggren Park, 96, passed away peacefully on November 20th, 2019 in Vero Beach, FL. Audrey was born in Fairview, South Dakota on March 21st, 1923. She later moved to Vero Beach, Florida, alongside her parents, Frances and Carl A. Berggren, and her three brothers. Together, the family established “Berggren’s Variety Store” which remained in business until the late 1990’s. On July 12th, 1942, Audrey married John B. Park at her parents’ home on Cortez Avenue in Vero Beach. After returning home from World War II, John B. and Audrey took over both Berggren’s stores in Fort Pierce. Audrey managed the store on Orange Avenue and John B. managed the store in the Fort Pierce shopping center on US Highway 1. After the closing of Berggren’s, Audrey and John B. opened “Park’s Rental” on Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce. In 1964, Audrey and two of her friends decided to start a business of their own. Each of them chipped in fifty dollars and established “El-Do-Rey Catering” which was the only catering service in the area for many years. Overtime, El-Do-Rey catered many affairs including weddings, receptions, cocktail parties, and dinners for up to 400 people. Audrey loved a good party, so catering was perfect for her. She even ran the very first food truck in Saint Lucie County. Audrey was also a member of the Junior Woman’s Club where she later became the president of the club. During that time, she received many awards including recognition for work done within the community. She was also recognized in the national magazine “Woman’s Home Companion” where she received the Honor Club Award Woman of the Year. For many years Audrey was involved with the support for Little Leagues. After retiring, Audrey and John B. were able to enjoy their home in North Carolina where they spent their time from months, May to November. Their Fourth of July parties were huge, and everyone looked forward to attending them. The mountain home John B. built in Murphy, North Carolina was her happy place. John B. and Audrey enjoyed 72 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2014. Audrey was always a hard-working woman and enjoyed being involved in many things. She and John B. had a group of friends that they regularly socialized with, usually at the Park house. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, reading, and loved to travel. She and a group of longtime friends played cards every Tuesday evening for more than thirty years. Audrey’s was happiest surrounded by family, they were her greatest joy. She especially enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Kirby A.
