Virginia L. (“Ginny”) Fry, 90, of Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 13. Services will begin with visitation at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, followed by her memorial at noon, at Faith Lutheran Church, 3109 Sunnyside Ave., Burlington. Virginia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Burlington, for 78 years; because an explosion severely damaged Trinity in March, her services will be at Faith with Pastor Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Private inurnment was at Aspen Grove Cemetery. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, and Prugh-Thielen Funeral Services, Burlington, are in charge of arrangements. Virginia Loraine Koepf was born Feb. 2, 1929, at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, Chicago, the daughter of Ralph Christian and Etta Anna (Loewe) Koepf. She married John Dale Fry on Nov. 30, 1947, in Burlington. He died on July 22, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Loraine Anderson (Frederick), Bettendorf, Iowa; two grandsons, Matthew Anderson (Erika Farber), New York City, and John Anderson (Gretchen), and granddaughters, Eleanore Loraine and Cecilia Marie Anderson, all of Saline, Mich.; nieces and nephews; and Kenji Inaba (Fumie) of Takarazuka, Japan, whom she regarded as a member of the family. Besides her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lois, who died in infancy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 S. Central Ave., or to Special Needs of Burlington, 829 Harrison, Ave., Burlington, Iowa 52601. Virginia’s family extend special thanks to Dr. Joseph Morris, Burlington, and his caring staff; to the staff of Genesis Hospice, Davenport, who lovingly cared for her during in-home hospice; and to all of her supportive friends. Virginia moved from Chicago to Burlington in 1941. While in Chicago, she took classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. During school, she participated in drama and worked on both the school newspaper and the yearbook. She went on to take courses in interior design. Virginia was a self-taught gourmet cook and seamstress. She worked for Color Sales & Service, the family business, 1959-1970. In 1971, she began a 20-year career as a designer at the Ethan Allen Carriage House, Burlington. During her years as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Virginia had taught Sunday School, had sung in both junior and senior choirs and had served on the Church Council. She was a longtime member of Questers Antiques No. 284. She was an accomplished bridge player, with membership in many bridge groups.
