Madsen, age 87 of Stanwood, WA, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019. Violet was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was thoughtful and caring in all that she did. She put others needs before herself. Violet was resilient and optimistic. Through hardship, health issues and losses she ALWAYS made it through with a good attitude. She never gave up! Violet never wore dark colors only pastel and bright colors. She took care with her appearance with pink lipstick and perfectly arched eyebrows. She wore jewelry and scarves that reflected her bright spirit. Violet enjoyed music. She played piano by ear and could play any song suggested. Recently she especially liked to play “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” with great exuberance. There were many songbooks in her piano stool. Violet and our dad Olaf had lots of fun singing together and with family at gatherings. Violet had a great knowledge of flowers. She arranged beautiful combinations of colorful flowers for bouquets, hanging baskets and planters. Every Memorial Day she carried on the tradition of decorating family gravesites. She prepared over 30 fresh flower arrangements; then went to the cemeteries in Stanwood and Silvana to place on the gravestones. Her curiosity led her to research topics in books and especially loved to find the meanings of words. When typed up there were over 200 words she searched for definitions. When reading newspapers and magazines she clipped articles to read and learn. She enjoyed to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and she guessed the right answers many times. She collected unusual rocks, even one that looked like a loaf of bread. For a time she collected porcelain dolls and figures of birds and animals. She liked butterflies too. Violet loved the fall colors and picked up leaves to press. As a young woman she skillfully drew colorful drawings of flowers, landscapes and animals. Violet made a marvelous macaroni salad and had to make two large bowls at a time because it would be eaten up so fast. She cooked a good pot roast too that included potatoes and carrots. She liked to eat ice cream with both chocolate and strawberry syrup. She enjoyed to eat and liked to anticipate what to eat the next day. It was fun for her to watch the travels of the squirrels in the neighborhood go down the street, along fences, up trees and over rooftops. Sometimes they would see her looking and look right back. Violet was gentle and quiet but had a very good sense of humor. We love Violet with all our hearts. Her kind, thoughtful, loving manner will be deeply missed by all. We are blessed to be her family.
