A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Terry Robert Edgington, 85 of Cookeville, will be held Friday October 11th at 5:00 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Bro. Buddy Johnson will officiate. His family will receive friends Friday from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Edgington died Monday evening, October 7, 2019 at NHC Healthcare, Cookeville. He was born January 22, 1934 in Covington, KY to the late John and Mary Edgington. Mr. Edgington was raised in Nashville. He came to Cookeville to attend Tennessee Polytechnic Institute where he met the love of his life and wife LaValla Presley Edgington. He often told the story that he and his friends were walking through the quad one day and he told his buddies that he was going to ask the next pretty girl they met to go out with him. The next girl he saw was LaValla Presley and the rest was history. He was a lifelong member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Mr. Edgington received a BS Degree in Agriculture from TTU. After graduation from TTU, Terry and LaValla moved to Columbus, Ohio where Terry attended Ohio State University working towards a Masters Degree in microbiology. Mr. Edgington served in the US Army for two years before being honorably discharged after an extended illness with rheumatic fever. After moving back to Cookeville, Terry worked in agriculture as a farm supply store manager and owner for nearly 18 years. After 18 years of working in agriculture, Terry went back to school at the University of Tennessee for three semesters to get his Masters Degree in Vocational Education. Mr. Edgington then became the Vocational Agriculture teacher at Upperman High School where he also served as head baseball coach, and assistant football and basketball coach for a number of years. Mr. Edgington was affectionately known as Mr. E during his years as a teacher where he was a mentor to thousands of young people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, LaValla Presley Edgington. He is survived by sons, David Edgington and wife Karen, John Edgington, and Fred and wife Angie Edgington, all of Cookeville; grandchildren, Katie Edgington (Dan)Beasley, Drew (Kori) Edgington, Hallie Edgington (Cody) Hillis, John David (Sara Beth) Edgington, John Terry (Amanda) Edgington, Jacob Edgington and Will Edgington; great grandchildren, Virginia Grace Beasley, Tucker Edgington, Ben Beasley and Tate Edgington and Wyatt Gray (WG) Hillis; and by brother, Ronald Edgington and wife Margaret of Lebanon.
