Oskaloosa. Ronald L. Green, 79, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, October 13, 2019, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born January 16, 1940, in New Sharon, Iowa, the son of Wilber and Rose VanGorp Green. He graduated from Lacey High School with the class of 1958. Following high school, he went to work for Oskaloosa Concrete. After 10 years there he joined the crew at Bloom Builders, building pole barns. Ron also worked doing construction for Edward Campbell for a short time. Last he worked at Vermeer for three years before he became disabled. In 1963, Ron was united in marriage to Arlene Phillips. To this union two children were born, Dana and Terry. Ron and Arlene later divorced. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles and the V.F.W. Ron was a true outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed being on his acreage and tending to his livestock and his hobby farm. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and listening to his police scanner. He always looked forward to spending time with his family. His family includes his two children and their spouses, Dana and Roger Taft and Terry and Stacy Green all of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, Erica Taft, Tyler (Kassi) Taft, Cody Green, Collin Green, Andrew Green, and Cameron Green; two great grandchildren, Bowen and Clay Taft; and a brother, Jerry Green of Branford, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private family burial will be held in the White Oak Cemetery east of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
