Robert Matthew Carson, 85, of Bergholz, OH, passed away October 1, 2019 at Meadows of Cadiz. He was born December 14, 1933 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Joseph and Ora Carson. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Madison Carson; brother, Joseph Murray Carson; and sister, Mable Matthews. Robert was Methodist by faith. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for Jefferson County Highway Department. In the past, Robert was active in the Smithfield VFD at an early age, and was also a ham radio operator. He was a friend to everyone. Robert is survived by his wife, Myrtle J. (Detchon) Carson; children, Lucinda (Malcolm) Carson, Pastor Robert Matthew (Anita) Carson, Jr., Jade (Amber) Smith, Jessica (Jason) Champion, and Joshua (Brandie) Smith; grandchildren, Heather (John), R. Joseph (Kendell), R. Matthew III (Robin), Mark A. (Amanda), Nate, Emily, Cooper, Hanna, Sophia, Joshua Jr., Carver, and Brody; 4 great grandchildren; and beloved friends, Kristy Ferrell and Keith Wolford. Friends will be received at the Bergholz United Methodist Church, 266 Second St., Bergholz on Friday from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 1 PM with his son, Pastor Robert Matthew Carson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Simmons Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Bob’s honor to the Bergholz Food Pantry, P.O. Box 304, Bergholz, OH 43908.
