Pearline’s Obituary Sunrise … On July 15th, 1955 in Columbus, Mississippi, Ethel and Pervie Hester welcomed into the world their seventh child, Pearlene Hester. Live every moment… When Pearl was a baby, the family relocated to Chicago. She grew up on the west side where she attended Sumner Elementary, Austin High School and Triton College. After graduating from Triton, she began her career in health care. She worked at various nursing homes and hospitals through-out her career. The latter part of her life was spent working for LaGrange Memorial Hospital where she spent twenty-five years nursing patients back to health. She loved helping people and providing care for those who didn’t have anyone else. She looked forward to telling her daughter and everyone who would listen stories about her crazy patients. Pearl accepted Christ at an early age which enabled her to be the kind-hearted person we all loved. As a child she was baptized at Pleasant Ridge Baptist church and for a while worshiped at New Relationship Baptist Church. Even though she wasn’t an active member of a church, she prayed and thanked God every day of her life. She would always say she was blessed and lived to bless others. Love beyond words … On January 28, 1977, Pearl was united in matrimony to the love of her life, Emile Smith. The next year their only child was born, Sheannse Smith. When Pearl’s sister, Ann, passed away, she left her two children for Pearl to raise, Veronica and Timothy Hester. She loved and raised them as her own. The bond between mother and children was totally forged by love. Laugh every day … Pearl’s laugh was infectious, and her smile would light up a room. She was loud, crazy, and so outgoing that just saying she was friendly would be an understatement. People just naturally gravitated to her fun-loving demeanor. If there was music playing, she was never too shy to get up and dance. The most important thing to her was her family. She was a terrific wife, a fantastic mother and loving daughter and sister. She called her siblings and daughter every day to make sure they were okay. She enjoyed hanging out with her daughter, traveling, attending family events and spending time with her grandkids at their favorite spot, McDonald’s Playland. She thought she was a comedian and was always cracking jokes. Her time on earth was spent in the sunshine, living, loving and laughing. You can’t have a rainbow without rain. Through-out her life she dealt with much sorrow. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Emile, son Timothy, parents, Ethel & Pervie and siblings, Annie Earl, Harold, Arlene and Bill. Sunset … Pearl departed this world on October 6, 2019 at 7:58am at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL. She had her granddaughter, Shelisa, and family by her side. Heartbroken … Pearl leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Sheannse and Veronica; four grandchildren, Shelisa, Shanika, Jerrod and Tyshawn; six great-grandchildren, Mylove, Makilah, Maleah, Montrell, Tyshawn Jr. and Marquise; two siblings, Annie Ruth and James; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will all miss her dearly.
