September 8 1935 September 28 2019
Norine Fetzer Smith, 84, died at home, September 28, 2019. Born September 8, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Florence Jackson and Henry Peter Fetzer, the second of eleven children. She had many happy memories of growing up with her siblings. Stories were told of baking Halloween cookies, trips to the cabin, and many hours spent with friends from the 10th ward. She received her teaching degree from the University of Utah and taught at East High, the same school she attended as a student. On July 2, 1959 she married the love of her life, Albert Neff Smith, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership position (her compassionate service being her most cherished) and as a scout leader for fourteen years. Norine loved life and she loved people. Nothing made her happier than to spend time with you. She had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person. She knew how to make everything fun, celebrating every holiday, sending cards, birthday dinners, and even just a visit could turn into a full-blown party. Laughter was a staple at our house, and even though mom looked sweet and innocent, she had a big dose of sass that came out fairly regularly. We loved her sass! She worked side by side with her husband, Albert, catering weddings as well as at J&L Garden Center. She taught her children how to work and how to have fun doing it. Norine was a devoted wife and mother of five children. Survived by children; Michill (Melinda) Smith, Machele (Doug) Carbine, Margaret (DeLynn) Lamb, daughter-in-law Julie Fratto-Smith, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Grant, Steven, Brian, and Lowell Fetzer; sisters Joyce Powell, Barbara Hamblin, Kathryn Fetzer, and Pamela Hawker. Preceded in death by sister, Lorna Monson; brother, Kent Fetzer; daughter, Myrine; and son, Mark Smith. A viewing will be held in the evening on October 9, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Premier Mortuary, 67 E. 8000 S. in Midvale, Utah. A viewing will also be held in morning of October 10, from 9:30-10:30 am. before the funeral service, which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Both the morning viewing and funeral service will be at the Winder 3rd Ward, 4551 S. 1200 E. Millcreek, Ut 84117. Interment will follow at Elysian Garden Cemetery.
