MAXIE’s Obituary MAXIE RAY JOHNSON, age 77, of Sherwood, Tenn., departed this life on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at STRHS Sewanee, Tenn., following an extended illness. Mr. Johnson was born in Sherwood on April 29, 1942, to the late William and Lillie Mae Meeks Johnson. He retired after 52 years of employment at Lhoist North America Mine in Sherwood working all aspects of the mine and his last job title was Mine Operator. Mr. Johnson served as a volunteer fireman with the Sherwood Fire Dept. in his earlier years. Mr. Johnson was of the Episcopal faith. He enjoyed working on cars and gardening. He will be remembered as a sweet and kind man that never met a stranger. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his brothers; Billy and Terry Johnson and granddaughter, Piper Lynn Dangler. He is survived by his wife, Mary Johnson of Sherwood, children; Sherry Fishman of Tullahoma, Lynn Johnson of Sherwood, Kristie Dangler and husband, Neal of Tullahoma, 2-grandchildren; Lexi-Lynn Dangler and Lani Dangler, brother, Kenneth (Shelia) Johnson of N.C., sisters; Marie Robinson of Virginia, Debbie Taylor of Fla., Ruth (Charlie) Simmons of Monteagle, several nieces and nephews and his devoted pet, Sugar. Visitation for Mr. Johnson will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Monday evening, October 28, 2019, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at the Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church, with Pastor, Michael Hill and Bro. Franklin Hill, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery in Sherwood.
