Mary “Mouse” Joann Shondel, age 71, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at MercyOne in Des Moines. Mary was born on April 28, 1948 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph John Belloma and Micheline Louise (Haag) Belloma. On August 31, 1964, she was united in marriage to Larry Ray Shondel. To this union, three children were born, Kevin, Kris, and Kip. Mary was very fond of animals, including dogs, cats, and raccoons. She also loved raising her sugar gliders. Mary liked to garden and plant flowers, especially her Spreading (Wave) Petunias. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, such as cross stitching and diamond painting. Most importantly, Mary cherished the time she spent with her family, and taught her grandchildren how to swim. Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her husband, Larry Shondel of Centerville; her children, Kevin (Robbie) Shondel of Pella, Kris (Hope) Shondel of Centerville, and Kip Shondel (Shawnda Starr) of Centerville; a sister, Nancy (Steve) Ruby of Centerville; four brothers, Frank (Diane) Belloma of Centerville, Jack Belloma of Centerville, Tom (Donna) Belloma of Centerville, and Jim (Sharon) Belloma of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Micheline Belloma; a sister in law, Linda Belloma; and a great grandchild, Dylan Ward Hinojosa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, October 28, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with Pastor Brad Dittmer officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will take place Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville from 12:00PM-5:00PM, with the family greeting friends from 3:00-5:00PM. Memorials have been established to the Family of Mary Shondel, to be determined at a later date, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
