Mary Ann Rustad, 80, of Butte, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Copper Ridge Care Center. She was born in Butte Sunday, October 23, l938 to William and Elizabeth (Davies) Shutey. She attended local schools, graduating from Butte High. She worked as a legal secretary for the Burgess Law firm for many years. On July 2, l971, she married Ken Rustad in Butte, and in 1973 they started Basin Creek Homes where they both worked until their retirement. Together they raised two boys, who were always a big part of her life. Growing up, Mary Ann played all kinds of sports and could keep up with any of the boys. She always enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Her father-in-law loved it when she out fished her husband, which was most of the time. She was an accomplished bowler in her younger years, enjoyed her gambling trips and loved their place at Georgetown Lake where she spent many enjoyable hours with her extended family. In her later years, she enjoyed time with her family, watching NFL football games, and always had her beloved cocker spaniel, Buffy by her side. Mary Ann was a very strong person who touched many people with her kindness and generosity. She always said “It’s a great life if you don’t weaken”. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother Butch Shutey and her sister Marlene Dwyer. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Ken Rustad, sons, Jeff Rustad (Bemadette McGillen and Tyler McGillen), Ken Rustad (Julie Crist, Connor Crist, Colt Crist) and her very special granddaughter, Kenzie Rustad. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Jim McCauley, brother and sister-in-law, David and Brenda Shutey, nieces and nephews, Kurt and Stacie McCauley, Jill Verdon, Steve and Connie McCauley, Ben and Stacey Pace, Lori and Raymond Harshbarger, John and Tina Dwyer and many other cousins and friends, including her special cousins, Nancy Henderson and Dennice Scanlon.
