Mr. Leo Long, 76, of Charlotte, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Novant Medical Center Charlotte with his family at his side. Mr. Long leaves behind his beloved wife Deanna Martin Long, of 44 years, a son Timothy Leo Long and his wife Cynthia, of Charlotte, a step-son, Samuel M. Inman IV, of Charlotte, and a step-daughter, Demarr M. Inman, of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by granddaughters Meagan Long and her husband Sousi, and Madison Godsell and husband Ben, and a great grandson Damien Leo Godsell. Leo is also survived by a brother Roger Long and wife Gail, of Greenville, NC, sister Linda Miller and husband Howard, of Latta, SC, sister Dianne Lines and husband Dan of Middleburg, FL, and sister-in-law Vicki M. Love of Palm Harbour, FL. Leo was born in Mullins SC, on October 16, 1942 to his late parents Jappie Charles “JC” Long and Essie Vera Stroud and spent most of his young life in Dillon, SC. In 1961, Mr. Long moved to Charlotte, NC to start a life on his own, and eventually joined the United States Army in 1963 where he became stationed in South Korea as a guard. When Leo was honorably discharged in 1966 he came back to Charlotte to start a career in Life Insurance Sales and Financial Planning with designations CLU CHFC, and EBC. Leo was also a life member of Phalanx Masonic Lodge #31, and the VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9488, and served as Quartermaster at post and district for 17 years. He also was a member of York Rites, Scottish Rites, Eastern Star Mizpah #36, and Oasis Temple Shrine. Leo and Deanna were also long time members of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Leo loved preparing and catering Barbeques for groups as large as 2000 people in North and South Carolina, restoring vintage cars, wood working projects, storytelling, and VFW Activities in Local, District, and State levels, and his breakfast club at BoJangles on Lawyers Road.
