Larry Edward Tower passed away 10/26/2019 from complications of diabetes and renal failure. Larry was born 5/7/51 to Virginia (Booth) and Donald Page Tower of Lowell Mi. He was raised next to Fallsburg Bridge in Lowell and was partially responsible for it’s broken boards as he and his siblings would often would dive into the river from the bridge Part of Larry’s family later moved to Ionia and Larry graduated from Ionia High School in 1969, He was drafted into the Army in 1971 and the night before he was to be sent to Viet Nam , Nixon called a cease fire and started to bring troops home so he was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged from the service and worked various jobs around the country including being a drummer in a Rock and Roll band. Larry was an excellent musician In another place or time he could have made a living with his musical talent. Larry started to work for GM in 1978 He retired from there after 30 years. in 1991 he married Linda Lich becoming a husband , step parent and home owner all in one year. known as Larry Larry to the Sebewa neighborhood that little acre on Henderson Road was his heaven and he allowed Linda to bring in any number of cats and dogs to complete the picture. Linda, however, was not the love of his life, that honor was bestowed on Aaron Velding, born to step daughter Brenda (Lich) and Randy Velding on Jan 14 2006 When Aaron was old enough to visit his Pop Pop and Ga Ga the two of them were inseparable. If you ever saw the two of them together you knew what love was. Larry would take Aaron on excursions around the neighborhood with Aaron “driving” the truck and the dogs in the back. It was his pure joy. Larry would go to Aaron’s preschool church concerts and sing along with Aaron, whistle holler and applaud like it was the rolling stones concert. Larry and Linda separated in 2011 but never stopped caring about each other. Larry continued to live on Henderson with his pups Sam Sam and Blackie until illness took over his life. Larry is survived by wife Linda Lich Tower step daughter Brenda (Randy) Velding and the holy grail of grandsons Aaron. Siblings Jim (Carol) Tower, Shirley (Russ) McGinn Terry Tower Linda (Scott) Nash and step siblings Bob (maggie) VanDyken, Marijane (Woody) Woodbury and Mary Van Dyken widow Tom VanDyken many nieces and nephews . In-Laws Shirley Lich Larry (Micky) Lich and Evelyn (Ken) David Special thanks to Ken David for the many years of putting back together the things Larry tore apart and helping him at every turn. You were a blessing to Larry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Bernard Baxter, Don and Patricia Tower step brothers Tom and Dale VanDyken Nephew Andy Tower brother-in- law John Lich and niece Suzy Lich. According to his wishes Larry will be cremated. There will be a memorial later in the Spring at the Fallsburg bridge with family. Larry was a good man and he will be missed by all. Death often elevates a person to sainthood, Larry wasn’t a Saint but he was a good man who loved his family dearly Larry, his antics and bonfires will be remembered for a long time.
