Juan Bautisita Ortiz was born, January 20, 1949, in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Maria Amparo Velazques and Juan B Ortiz. John grew up in the Bronx. He enlisted in the air force during the Vietnam War in May of 1969 and served his Country honorably till May of 1975. Receiving the National defense service medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service metal, and ultimately the Distinguished Service Cross. Republic of Vietnam. John became an airplane mechanic as well as other air force duties which included air support missions to provide safety measures for American ground forces. Upon retiring from the Air Force, his love for automobiles lead him to become an automobile mechanic with his unique style of providing a friendly smile and sense of comfort to his patrons. In his later years John became a chef in a nursing home bring joy to everyone who had the pleasure of tasting his remarkable dishes. John never met a stranger and was known for helping anyone he came in contact with. When his mother became ill he left his home in long Island to take care of her till she passed away. John was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Joseph Ortiz. John will be remembered as a bright, shining light in his beloved Gunther Avenue community, the Houston family, His Cousin Josephine, Mary Jane, George Carmona, Carlos, Doreen, and Mildred Montalvo. Niece Jessica Ortiz and Nephew Gabriel Ortiz. John passed away on October 27, 2019, in the VA Hospice Hospital after long battle with cancer with his beloved friends and family by his side. Services will be held at the McCalls Bronxwood Funeral located at 4035 Bronxwood Ave, The Bronx, NY 10466. Viewing will be on Friday Nov 1, 2019 between 4-9 PM and Final Service will be on Saturday, Nov 2 at 1PM at McCalls Bronxwood Funeral Home.
