Age 76. Husband of nearly 53 years to Rebecca Johanna Reilly (nee Speruta). Father of Kate Rizzo, Patrick M. Reilly (husband Patrick T. Mitchell), Johanna Lo (husband Toua), Joseph J. Reilly, Jr. (wife Jill), Danielle Kratzer (husband Steve), and Asia Gaulden (fiancé Hasheem Sconiers). Grandfather of Ronald K. Hines, Jr. (Stephanie), Victoria Hines (Frankie Jimenez), Caitlin Hines (Kyle Lee), Evan Reilly, Matthew Reilly, Alexandra Reilly, Drew Patrick Reilly, Savannah Jo Lo, Shayna Kratzer, Angelo Kratzer, Christian Kratzer, and Joseph Kratzer. Great-grandfather of Shaynalee Sconiers, Jaxson Hines, Jayda Jimenez, and Caiden Sconiers. Brother of Andrew Reilly, Sr.; Thomas Reilly, Sr.; and the late Margaret DeLigio. Son of the late Thomas Patrick and Elizabeth “Betty” (nee McCarthy) Reilly. Born in the Queens Borough of New York City, NY, Joseph was raised in Queens and nearby areas including Lawrence and Cedarhurst. He proudly joined the US Army from 1964 to 1966 during the Vietnam War earning the rank of SP-4 by the end of his service. Returning home to Cedarhurst from the military, Joseph was a volunteer fireman for 5+ years with the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department in Lawrence, NY. In 1972, he moved to Wenonah, NJ briefly before moving to Clayton where he has lived since 1975. Joseph worked as a dispatcher and special officer with the Mantua Township Police Department and later the Franklin Township Police Department before beginning 30 years in the maintenance department at the Clayton High School retiring as Head of Maintenance in 2011. During his years at Clayton High School, he served for a time as president of the Clayton Education Association. Joseph was a devoted member of the Clayton Elks Lodge #2132 for 33 years serving as past exalted ruler, past grand exalted ruler, and past district deputy. He loved to read, enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was very handy in fixing things around the home. Joseph’s wife recalls how much he loved to dance and how good of a dancer he was. She and their children all knew that family always came first for him. Relatives and friends are invited to an Elk Service and Life Celebration on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at 7:00 PM at the Clayton Elks Lodge, 350 S. Broad Street, Clayton, NJ 08312 where friends may call from 6:00 PM until service time. Inurnment on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 11:00 AM at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 240 N. Tuckahoe Road, Williamstown, NJ 08094.
