Obituary of John Patrick McWeeney And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand… John Patrick McWeeney passed on Sunday, October 13, 2019. He shared 78 years of love and Irish pride with everyone he met. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19th at 11 am at St Therese Parish, 151 Main St Succasunna. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 18th from 4-8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville. Donations in his name may be made to the good work of the National MS Society or the Alzheimers Association by way of www.inmemof.org John was born in May of 1941 to the late John and Ellen in Dromahair, County Leitrim, Ireland. As a young man, he emigrated to the US settling in NY where he found work. Shortly after he met Dolores McMahon and they married in 1964. John worked as a newspaper pressman for many years, providing a good life for his family. He was a proud Irishman and followed his Gaelic football religiously for years. He could recite the names of all players and stats over many decades. John and his family lived in Succasunna for over 40 years and were parishioners of St. Therese Parish. In recent years, they settled into The Oaks at Denville where he enjoyed new friendships and activities. He was an acquaintance to many and loved to chat. He read multiple newspapers daily and enjoyed discussing them all. He loved frequenting a good diner and picking up his lotto tickets downtown. Although we are saddened by his sudden passing, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and will be home in Ireland soon. He leaves his wife Dolores of 55 years; his children Maura and Sean; siblings Bernard, Maureen, Michael and Margaret; his loyal pup Sammy and many more dear relatives, neighbors and friends.
