Jane Ellen Grott June 19 1935 October 12 2019

June 19 1935 October 12 2019
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick prepared Jane to leave her physical life and receive her angel wings to join her beloved husband Joe; she reached him on October 12th, 2019. Born in Madison, Indiana, on June 19, 1935, to Ernest and Frieda (Lotz) Reeder, Jane had a sister Caroline (Arvin II) Donner who pre-deceased her, and a nephew Arvin III and great nephew Elliott Konink-Donner. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe and is survived by her 7 children, 8 grandchildren, 1 nephew, 2 nieces and 2 great-nephews: Dan (Christina Bailey) Grott, Columbus, Indiana; John (Leslie), Ben and Meredith Grott, Richmond, Virginia; Cathy Grott (Mike Kautzman), Mack and Kate, Billings, Montana; Mary Ann (Brent), Sara and Aaron Johnson, Johnston, Iowa; Susan (Ed) Grodecki , Cincinnati, Ohio; Amy (Steve), Carol and William Moseley, Davis, California; Nancy Grott (Jane White), Tecumseh, Michigan; Nephew Arvin Donner III and Great-Nephew Elliott Konink-Donner, both from Worthington, Ohio and nieces Beth and Leslie Grott. From Jane’s Children: Jane was a member of St. Columba and St. Bartholomew Church and a 40-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). A graduate of Indiana University School of Nursing, Jane kept her license current, just in case! She was an avid cat rescuer and leaves behind her handsome fur baby Steve, who will be cared for by her daughter Mary Ann. Jane will be remembered as a tenacious and independent woman with her own style, who used her education for a 30-year nursing career that supported all of us in achieving advanced degrees. She, along with our Dad, Joe, instilled in us the confidence needed to go after our dreams and careers. We all appreciated growing up in Columbus, Indiana and it will always be home. We have always been so thankful to our parents for giving us the gift of seven siblings. Our thoughts are with all the courageous, beautiful women (and men) who have learned to live without your beloved. You learned the finances, you took care of your home, you insisted on your independence and living your way, and you grieved and got through it. To each of you, we send love and compassion. In particular, the McKinley School 5. To Martha Smock, Sue Ann Vandagriff, Francis Nulf(in memoriam) and dearest Janey Es Clark, our Mother loved and cherished her friendship with all of you and we will always think of you and we love you very much. The family would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude the staff from Hospice of South Central Indiana, TEAM 1 who, “moved heaven and earth,” to ensure Jane’s comfort and care and assisted Jane with her wish of living out her final days at home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th Street, Columbus, IN 47201. Thank you to all staff at Columbus Regional Hospital, the Emergency Department and the Floor 3 nurses for your compassion and care. We thank Christina, our sister in-law, who helped Mom until we could arrive. Thank you to Jane’s neighbors, Doreta Trent and Jean Jenkins, and to Lisa James for looking out for Jane for many years. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Home on Saturday, October 19th officiated by Father Clem Davis starting with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by the service at 10 a.m. In accordance with Jane’s wishes, she will be cremated and entombed at Springdale Cemetery in Madison.
