Jacob Lawton Carter, Jr., 79, of 654 Doyle St., Westminster passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, at Cottingham Hospice House. A native of St. Augustine, Florida, Mr. Carter was the son of the late Jacob Lawton Carter, Sr. and Margaret Nettles. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He earned a BS Degree from the University of Georgia and a Master’s Degree from Clemson University. He was the owner of Western Auto and Carter’s Car Washes. Mr. Carter was a member of the Westminster Masonic Lodge #200 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was an avid golfer a fisherman and was the Protestant faith. Mr. Carter is survived by a son: Jacob Lawton Carter, III of Anderson; daughter: Suzanna Carter Foley (Louis J. Foley, Jr.) of Sumter; brother: Gene Carter (Mary) of High Springs, FL; grandchildren: Catherine Foley Bussmann (Robert), Jacob Lawton Carter, IV, and Elizabeth Carter Foley. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Davenport Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Prisma Health, Cottingham Hospice House, Attn. Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672 or Biggerstaff Christian Retreat Center, 398 Biggerstaff Rd., Seneca, SC 29672.
