Jacob Lawton Carter, Jr., 79, of 654 Doyle St., Westminster passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, at Cottingham Hospice House. A native of St. Augustine, Florida, Mr. Carter was the son of the late Jacob Lawton Carter, Sr. and Margaret Nettles. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He earned a BS Degree from the University of Georgia and a Master’s Degree from Clemson University. He was the owner of Western Auto and Carter’s Car Washes. Mr. Carter was a member of the Westminster Masonic Lodge #200 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was an avid golfer a fisherman and was the Protestant faith. Mr. Carter is survived by a son: Jacob Lawton Carter, III of Anderson; daughter: Suzanna Carter Foley (Louis J. Foley, Jr.) of Sumter; brother: Gene Carter (Mary) of High Springs, FL; grandchildren: Catherine Foley Bussmann (Robert), Jacob Lawton Carter, IV, and Elizabeth Carter Foley. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Davenport Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Prisma Health, Cottingham Hospice House, Attn.
