Irene’s Obituary Irene M. Swenson, 98, Kenmare, ND, formerly of Bowbells, ND, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in a Kenmare hospital. Irene Mildred Swenson was born July 24, 1921 in Burr Oak, Iowa to Martin and Emma Torgeson. Her family moved to Westby, Montana and then to Fortuna, North Dakota where Irene graduated from high school in 1940. She received her teaching certificate and taught in several country schools in Divide, Ward and Burke counties. Irene married Manfred Swenson in November of 1948. They lived and farmed near Bowbells,North Dakota. Manfred also custom combined, and Irene went with him during the harvest for 24 years. Irene was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Bowbells. She was also active in the Bowbells Senior Citizens where she served as treasurer for many years. Irene is survived by her brother, Ronald Torgeson (Gynelle) of Bismarck; son, Glenn Neil (Dorothy) of Fort Mill, SC; two grandchildren, Martin Swenson (Sherra) and Ginny Hice (Bill); four great grandchildren, Hunter Hice (Carolyn),Colby Hice, Clay Swenson and Kaleb Swenson and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents,Martin and Emma Torgeson, sister Lucille Grindeland, and her husband, Manfred Rudolph Swenson.
