September 7 1923 October 30 2019
Helen Weber of Spearfish, South Dakota September 7, 1923 – October 30, 2019 Helen Weber, 96 of Spearfish, SD, passed away peacefully on October 30, 201,9 at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare. Helen May Freed was born September 7, 1923 to Nichodemus and Ella (Stenerson) Freed in Hazen, ND. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Dickinson, ND. Her father owned several grocery stores and was involved in politics. At age 18 she spied Stanley Weber walking past her house to his job and decided to break out of her shy shell and make his acquaintance. It was love at first sight and they were married June 1, 1943. Her mother died when she was a toddler and growing up without a mom made her vow she would be the best mother she could to her seven children – and she was! The Weber clan enjoyed camping, holidays, school activities and all of the growing up activities. She made clothes and costumes and she was an excellent cook – her pies and cookies were renowned. Helen and Stan moved to Spearfish in 1981. They had a lovely home west of town and she spent many hours crocheting, making crafts, making cookies, gardening and making pickles, shooing away the grackles, calling her children, watching Walker Texas Ranger and Matlock, playing Ms. PacMan and watching Wheel of Fortune. They were very active in St. Joseph Catholic Church. They moved into Sandstone Manor in the fall of 2014. After 71+ years together, her husband Stan passed away April 21, 2015 and even with her memory and mind failings, she never forgot him and never failed to miss him terribly every day since. She passed away on thinking of THAT MAN, the love of her life. She loved going for a drive, chocolate drops, warm milk and cookies before bed, her music channel, Lookout Mountain, solar lights, word search puzzles, beating everyone in Rummy and she loved the folks who took care of her at Sandstone Manor and David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center. Helen is survived by her children: Judy Weber, St. Louis, MO; Mary Lynette (Joe) Spicka, Sun Lakes, AZ; Pat Weber, Spearfish, SD; Carol (Dave) Enderle, Spearfish, SD; Barb (Jeff) Kuhn, Dickinson, ND; Michael Weber, Spearfish, SD; Laurie (Tom) Hegna, Fountain Hills, AZ and Karla Weber, Rapid City, SD; 24 grandchildren – Susan, Karen, John, Tom, Kati, Jim, Steven, Brian, Heather, Jennifer, Jason, Mike, Mitch, Marissa, Michaela, Kari, Ben, Jaden, Cole, Cade, Ryan, Sean, J.J. and Sami as well as 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Stan, both parents; brothers, Kenneth Freed, Howard Freed, DuWayne Freed and Larry Freed; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Weber and Alice Wheaton and an infant great-grandson. No doubt her final thought was – ‘I’m OUT, count them up – I won!! Yahoo!!’. We will miss you forever. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Friday, November 1, 2019 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish with the Vigil following at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
