September 13 1923 October 29 2019 (age 96)
Helen Jane (Camara) Perry loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away October 29, 2019. On this day Dad came for her and she gladly took his hand as she peacefully passed through the veil. He had waited patiently for 33 years for this happy reunion. Helen was born in Burley, Idaho, September 13, 1923 to Victor and Matilda Camara, Basque immigrants from Bilboa, Spain. They moved to Highland Boy Utah in Bingham Canyon when Helen was 5 years old. Victor died of pneumonia 1936. Helen and her sister Rose were lovingly raised by their mom and step-father Pete Zabala. She enjoyed growing up in a diverse community with people from all over the world. Helen graduated from Bingham High School where she excelled in art and dance. She went to work at Kennecott Copper Mine as a track switch operator where she met Paul Perry, the love of her life. They were married in June 1947 in Bingham after Paul returned from the Navy in World Ward II. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised two children Craig and Debbie in Cottonwood Heights where she resided for 60 years. Helen made a career with Mountain Bell as directory assistance operator where she retired after 40 years. Helen loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers in her yard. One of her favorite things to do was go for a drive basically anywhere with Paul and the kids. She loved going to lunch with so many good friends in the “Lunch Bunch.” Helen was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a very accepting way about her and a warm heart. If you came to her home you were always offered something to eat and drink. For the last three and a half years of her life she was the life of the party at Beehive Home in Draper, where she sang to her friends and care givers in Spanish, her first language. If you visited her there you were given a hug and a kiss. We as her family would like to give a special thanks to everyone who touched Mom’s life at Beehive Home in Draper and Lighten Home Health, especially her hospice nurse, Reggie. Helen is survived by her children, Craig (Sherry) Perry and Debbie Rogerson. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who she dearly loved. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, Paul, parents Victor, Matilda and Pete, sister Rose (Ralph) Hoover, brother Leon Zavala. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the Brighton 1st Ward, 2925 E. Bengal Blvd. (7800 S.). A visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2019 at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6-8 p.m. and the day of the service at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Church Missionary Fund or a charity of your choice. We love you Mom
