Born and raised in Pottersville New Jersey to parents Floyd and Mildred Walmsley Metzler, Harry attended and graduated from Bernards High School. After high school Harry served his country enlisting in the US Army during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956. Upon returning home, he started his career as a salesman for Bedminster Ford and later moved onto a career in surveying. He started his surveying career at Apgar Associates of Far Hill NJ which sparked his interest to further his education, studying at ICS to become a NJ State Licensed Surveyor and Professional Planner. In 1969, Harry, along with his business partner Carl Frost, created Associated Consultants Inc. in Chester N.J. where he served as President until his retirement in 2010. Harry resided in Pottersville most of his life and more recently enjoyed time creating memories at his beach home in Brick NJ, and wintering in Marco Island Florida with his wife Jeanne. Harry was a longtime member and past President of the Pottersville Volunteer Fire Company serving for 56 years. An avid race fan Harry enjoyed his grandson and grandnephew’s karting races as well NASCAR, where he had the pleasure to see his passion up close through visiting his favorite racetracks over the years both in Daytona and Charlotte. He loved his yearly trip to Daytona with his buddy Mick, stopping along the way to fish with his son in South Carolina. Harry loved watching sports but found greater joy through watching his children and grandchildren explore their love of sports and their passions. In later years, he derived pleasure watching all his grandchildren explore their interests; in particular watching his grandsons’ football games or tuning into the Big Ten Network to watch Rutgers wrestling. Whether watching sports, dropping a line in his favorite fishing hole or just relaxing in one of his children’s backyard, Harry always enjoyed a good cigar.
