Gloria’s Obituary Howes Cave (Schoharie County): Gloria Ann Wetsell, 86, passed away October 22, 2019, at Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Healthcare surrounded by her family. Gloria was born in Portland, Maine on July 17, 1933, a daughter of Phillip and Bernice (Lowell) Bishop. She graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1951 and took a job with North Central Airlines as a stewardess. She married Raymond B. Wetsell, Jr. on June 9, 1956 and soon after, opted to stay closer to home and took a job as a receptionist for Arkeyl-Smith Bag Factory in Canajoharie. Her family settled in the Grosvenor’s Corners area where they lived for many years. At various times she also held positions in reception for Dr. Eaton and for Century 21, both of Cobleskill, and most recently as a cashier for the former Jamesway in Cobleskill until her retirement. When Gloria was not at work, she enjoyed spending her time boating, going for fishing trips on the St. Lawrence River, and taking a yearly vacation to Wells Beach in Maine. Gloria was also a devoted member of the Grosvenor’s Corners United Methodist Church, enjoyed spending time with her friends, and loved her family unconditionally. Gloria is survived by her children, Julie A. (Bruce) Sommers of Esperance, NY, Pamela J. (Mark) Matice of Middleburgh, NY, Bruce P. Wetsell of Howes Cave, NY, and Alan (Anne) Wetsell of Brooksville, FL, her grandchildren, Sarah (Jim) Jordan of Brunswick, GA, and Bradly (Beth) Matice of Cobleskill, NY, her great-grandchildren Kayla, Leland, Coltyn, Claire, Ryan, and Madeline, a brother, Phillip Bishop II of Scotia, NY, and a brother-in-law, Mahlon Wrobel of South Glens Falls, NY. She was predeceased by two sisters, Loretta Palm and Hazel Wrobel. Services for Gloria will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Gloria’s memory to the Grosvenor’s Corners United Methodist Church, PO Box 508, Middleburgh, NY 12122, or to Catskill Area Hospice, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820.
