Gerald “Jerry” Foltz of Spearfish, South Dakota June 2, 1927 – October 23, 2019 Gerald Dean Foltz was born June 2, 1927 in Lantry, SD and on October 23, 2019, he left the home on Upper Valley that he built and went to his new home in Heaven at the age of 92. Jerry was met by his beloved wife Marie E. Foltz, father Henry Leroy Foltz, mother Winifred May (McDaniel) Foltz, and siblings Eunisa, Francis, Grace, Manford and Chadwick as well as many special family and friends. His memory is carried on by his daughter Renee M. Foltz (Laurance K. Carr), granddaughter, Nicole Marie Carr Frankl (Bernard Frankl), and great-grandchildren, Keith, Bernard and Gerald Frankl. The tales of Jerry Foltz will be carried on by special nephews, Sid and Don Foltz, extended family members, friend, Wayne Lindstad and many wonderful friends. At the age of two, he and his family moved to Spearfish, SD where he lived an adventurous childhood. He was often found fishing Spearfish creek, trying to outrun the police on his bicycle and competing with his father, brothers and friends for the largest hunting trophy. Jerry attended school in Spearfish, SD, after which he joined the Armed Services where he served with distinction in Korea, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Upon an honorable discharge, Jerry worked in Alaska before returning to Spearfish where he met his beloved wife, Marie Foltz. Jerry and Marie were married September 26, 1953 and spent 61 years of love, commitment and adventure. Jerry started the Foltz cabinet shop with his brother Manford where they worked together for 15 years. After Jerry and Manford sold the cabinet shop, Jerry’s career consisted of working in the Gillette oil fields, Homestake Sawmill, and completed his career working as a lift operator at the Homestake Gold Mine, where he retired at the age of 66. During retirement, Jerry and Marie enjoyed camping with the Good Sams Club, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, bowling, gathering with friends and enjoying his grand child and great grandchildren. Jerry was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was in the Knights of Columbus for a number of years and served as a Grand Knight. He was also on the Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department. On May 13, 1961, Jerry and Marie were blessed with the birth of Renee. They were further blessed with their Granddaughter Nicole on October 18, 1983. His life was further enriched with great grandchildren Keith, Bernard and Gerald (his namesake) 2007, 2011 and 2014. Jerry is ever loved and admired by his family and dear friends. Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 28, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Inurnment will follow with full military rites at Black Hills National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
