He worked the majority of his 40 years as a John Deere parts manager at Wellington Implement and then, following its closing, at D&D Implement in Winfield. Floyd was an avid John Deere model collector, known to say “if it wasn’t green, it was ugly.” He then worked for the City of Wellington as compost site manager and a roadside mower operator for many years.Though disabled, Floyd always held a job and when suggested that he go ahead and draw disability, he always felt there were others who needed it more than he did. He was born in Axtell, KS on January 23, 1929, to James Victor Thompson and Josie (Allender) Thompson. He married Linda L. Wood on August 24, 1956, in Wichita, KS. He loved his wife the minute he first saw her and knew he was going to marry her. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, woodworking and was an active and dedicated member of his church. Floyd served in many capacities at the churches he attended. Having been born disabled and later in a serious car accident, he always felt that God had something special for him to do or he would have never made it as far as he did. The past two years he shared his faith with care home roommates, residents and staff, holding Bible studies and mealtime prayers. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; his son, David; and four brothers, Bill, Ralph, John and Audley Thompson. Survivors include his three children, Dennis Thompson and Judy Bennehoof of Wellington and Elizabeth Linot and her husband Darrel of Douglass, KS; five grandchildren, Jarret Krueger and his wife Chelsea, Kindyl Krueger, Chris Bennehoof, Hunter Owston and Taylor Briscoe; and two great grandchildren, Jorden and Molly Briscoe. Memorial Services will be held at the Wellington First Free Will Baptist Church at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 4, 2019. Pastor Zane Brooks will officiate. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Wellington First Free Will Baptist Church Youth Mission Trip Fund.
